ReelCool Offsets Hollywood Movies, Television, and Media

The trend of offsetting energy use with credits that go towards the development of renewable energy sources is heating up. One company, NativeEnergy, is taking that challenge to movie studios and helping offset air travel, vehicles, editing, lights, trailers, etc. through a program called ReelCool.
The ReelCool program has helped offset movies such as Syriana, An Inconvenient Truth, and MTV’s Trippin’ series. Participating studios include Warner Brothers and Participant Productions. How long till we see a majority of movies offset through programs such as ReelCool? How about a portion of the profits donated to green causes? Obviously, the energy wasted promoted a movie is pretty massive — press junkets around the globe, massive celebrity trailers (though there is a new solution), and all the literature, marketing, and materials that follow. It’s good to see companies such as NativeEnergy pinpointing an industry and might just bite for good PR.

Charlize Theron is a pretty amazing actress. I had the opportunity to watch her in the movie, North Country, the other day and was once again reminded of her talent. It also helps that she’s gorgeous. Anyways, besides her hollywood talents, Theron is also known as an ardent supporter of the environment. One of our favorite sites, Hip & Zen, has recently received her endorsement for their South African Chic Collection. From the article, Charlize said, “”I support any brand that gives back to the community so I applaud HIP & ZEN for teaming up with The Topsy Foundation and introducing the South African Chic Collection.” Of the collection, founder Clothier says, “I was amazed at the wonderful creativity emerging from local designers on my last trip home. I loved the innovative and fresh direction the artisans were taking and knew these unique pieces would bring a bit of the exotic and untamed to the states. And, the products are all sustainable and fairly traded — truly HIP & ZEN!â€
