The foie gras story is not a pretty one. It paints a terrible picture of the food industry today – force feeding ducks to create a “delicacy”. Celebrities such as Roger Moore, Sir Paul McCartney, Loretta Swit, John McLaughlin, and Pat Buchanan have spoken out against foie gras. Recently Chicago passed a ban on the item. California has outlawed force-fed foie gras beginning in 2012 (why so long?).

This inhumane practice, recently called “an industrialized form of torture”,can be read more about on sites such as NO Foie Gras and GoVeg.com.

Sounds like people are becoming educated and it’s making a difference. Sadly, people involved in the industry don’t feel they are doing anything wrong. What’s more, an operations manager at one of these plants, Marcus Henley, states that because of all of this publicity lately, sales are up. He believes the Chicago ban will actually help business.

See Roger Moore’s video on foie gras – I’m sure not for the weak of heart or stomach. I personally won’t be able to watch it, but here it is for those interested: Roger Moore exposes the “cruelty” behind the delicacy.
